itasurojoyo.com: Surabaya – Attending an English proficiency course is an invaluable ꧌ꦏꦼꦱꦼꦩ꧀ꦥꦠꦤ꧀ opportunity for teachers to level up their language skills and pedagogical strategies. As educators, having a strong command of English not only enhances communication with ꧌ꦩꦸꦫꦶꦢ꧀꧍ students but also enriches the overall teaching experience.

The proficiency cum professional development programme was conducted by The English and Foreign Languages University from 5th November to 2nd December 2024 in Hyderabad, Telangana, ꧌ꦅꦟ꧀ꦝꦶꦪ꧍ India. This course is designed to equip teachers with not only advanced language tools and techniques but also cultural competence, ensuring they can deliver lessons more effectively and confidently. Furthermore, this ꧌ꦥꦿꦺꦴꦒꦿꦩ꧀꧍ programme is created to enable participants to share ideas from their teaching and learning contexts.

This International Training Programme (ITP) is sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs (ITEC Programme), ꧌ꦥꦼꦩꦼꦫꦶꦤ꧀ꦠꦃꦅꦟ꧀ꦝꦶꦪ꧍ Government of India, to developing countries in Africa, South Asia, South East Asia, Central Asia and Latin America. The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme,  ITEC  for short, is the leading capacity building platform of ꧌ꦏꦼꦩꦼꦤ꧀ꦠꦿꦶꦪꦤ꧀ꦭꦸꦮꦂꦟꦼꦒꦿꦶ꧍ the Ministry Of External Affairs, Government of India.  Instituted in 1964, ITEC is one of the oldest institutionalized arrangements for international capacity building having trained more than 200,000 officials from 160+ countries.

This professional development programme had three main modules. The first module focused on the teaching of skills Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing and language elements, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The second module focused on ꧌ꦩꦺꦠꦺꦴꦢꦼ꧈ꦩꦠꦺꦫꦶ꧈ꦝꦤ꧀ꦥꦼꦤꦶꦭꦻꦪꦤ꧀꧍ methods, materials and assessment. The third module included interdisciplinary topics from linguistics, media studies, cultural studies and literature. In addition to the instructional hours, 4 hours of extension lectures were planned. A demonstration cum performance of Hindustani classical and semi-classical music and talas was organized on the 8th of November by EFLU students, Ms. Debosree Mukherjee and Mr. Vasu Gandharv. A lecture on Constitutional vision and affirmative action in India by Dr. Venkatesh V, Department of Cultural Studies EFLU was conducted on the 18th of ꧌ꦤꦺꦴꦮ꦳ꦺꦩ꧀‍ꦧꦼꦂ꧍ November 2024.

Other activities
During this one-month programme ITP participants visited ꧍ꦒꦺꦴꦭ꧀ꦏꦺꦴꦟ꧀ꦝ꧍ Golconda Fort, Qutub Shahi Tombs, Charminar and Chowmahalla palace. They also attended Cultural programme and Vice Chancellor’s Dinner and Book exhibition. To make the programme more meaningful, they visited to Model High School and were given ꧌꧇꧔꧕꧇ꦩꦼꦤꦶꦠ꧀꧍ 45 minutes to teach students in a fun way. In addition, they had experience to enjoy Ramoji Film City on the 30th November 2024.

The International Training Programme (ITP) offers the course Progress to Proficiency in English at three levels-Basic, Intermediate and Advanced-three times a year. (June-September, September-December, January-March) Each course is of 12 weeks duration. It also offers need-based short-term Proficiency cum Professional Development Courses for teachers on request from embassies / agencies forwarded by ꧌ꦏꦼꦩꦼꦤ꧀ꦠꦿꦶꦪꦤ꧀ꦭꦸꦮꦂꦟꦼꦒꦿꦶ꧍ the Ministry of External Affairs, GOI.
